Impact Pillars

Impact Pillars

USA for IOM’s work is anchored in four essential and interconnected impact pillars that ensure people on the move receive protection, opportunity, and a path toward stability. These pillars build on IOM’s unique position as the UN Migration Agency, drawing on decades of operational expertise, policy leadership, and innovation.

Save Lives in Emergencies

Through strategic fundraising and partnerships, USA for IOM supports IOM’s global operations, including co-leading Shelter and Camp Coordination and Management clusters that enable rapid response when crises strike.

IOM provides lifesaving assistance in some of the world’s most complex emergencies. Its capacity includes rapid deployment, supply chain operations, emergency health services, displacement tracking, and safe shelter solutions.

This pillar ensures:

As climate-driven disasters intensify, this work is becoming even more critical.

Protect Health and Wellbeing for All

USA for IOM advances IOM’s migration health programming by mobilizing philanthropic support and building partnerships that strengthen access to care for people on the move.

Migration health is central to IOM’s mission. Healthy migrants strengthen healthy communities. In an interconnected world, disease knows no borders. By ensuring migrants have access to care, we protect lives, strengthen communities, and safeguard global health security. IOM bridges the gap between the most vulnerable and national health systems, ensuring that no one is left behind.

In 2024 alone, IOM delivered over 6.2 million medical consultations worldwide, including maternal health and disease surveillance.

Our health programming includes:

From tuberculosis screening to maternal health to disease surveillance, these services protect both migrants and the communities that host them.

Build Resilience and Durable Solutions

USA for IOM is committed to helping families not just survive a crisis, but rebuild their lives. Ending displacement requires more than shelter; it requires hope, opportunity and a future. IOM helps families move from survival to self-sufficiency through locally led solutions that restore dignity and unlock opportunity.

Last year, IOM helped 2.8 million people exit displacement and begin their recovery.

Durable solutions include:

End Human Trafficking and Exploitation

Displacement should never mean danger. Yet for millions, instability opens the door to exploitation and trafficking. Together, we can close that door and open pathways to safety and justice.

In a world of compounding crises, anyone can become a victim. Traffickers prey on instability. Today, from conflict zones to economic corridors, millions of people are one false narrative away from exploitation.

USA for IOM helps mobilize resources and partnerships that enable IOM to expand global efforts to prevent trafficking and support survivors.

Through our global Anyone A Victim campaign, IOM is shifting the narrative. We are moving beyond simple awareness to build a global movement centered on survivor leadership, justice, and ending the stigma that often silences those who escape.

Protection services include:

This is life-saving, life-changing work. It restores dignity, rebuilds futures, and empowers survivors to become the architects of change in their own communities and beyond.
