Diaspora communities sent home an estimated $685 billion in remittances to low- and middle-income countries in 2024 alone (World Bank). Yet most of that potential goes untapped by policy. The Global Diaspora Policy Alliance, launched by the International Organization for Migration (IOM) following the 2022 Global Diaspora Summit in Dublin, exists to change that.

The GDPA brings senior policymakers, diaspora organizations, and private sector partners into one working alliance, translating diaspora expertise into real policy and programming across three priority areas:

→ Health and Well-being — channeling diaspora medical and public health expertise into stronger health systems
→ Climate Action and Environment — mobilizing diaspora innovation and investment toward climate resilience
→ Gender Equality and Youth — elevating the voices of diaspora women and young people in development policy

Today, more than 30 countries and organizations, including the African Union, Germany, India, Mexico, and the Philippines, have committed to the alliance’s founding declaration.
