Crisis and Disasters

“Our first objective is always going to be saving lives and protecting people on the move. When people are in danger or crisis or when they are fleeing conflict, instability, climate disasters or other crises – or even a combination of all of the above – our first and most important job is to provide them with life-saving assistance. "

Crises and disasters are disrupting livelihoods, creating food insecurity and water scarcity, and increasing the risk of resource-related conflict around the world.

Many lacking the resources and options to adapt and rebuild from intensifying natural disasters will be forced to migrate.

IOM puts the safety, dignity and protection of people first in the most challenging crisis response contexts in the world. We support communities by increasing investments in disaster risk reduction measures and local adaptation.
