On 8 October a 6.3 magnitude earthquake hit Herat Province, Afghanistan, killing over a thousand people and demolishing the homes of many more. 

Just hours after the earthquake, IOM teams on the ground deployed humanitarian assistance. Working together with our partners, we are providing shelter, including tents and blankets, hygiene kits, and are sending mobile health teams with essential medical supplies to make sure we help as many people as possible.
